Intended Use

The intended use of the BD ClipVac™ system is to vacuum clipped hair and airborne contaminants generated from the clipping process. It should be used

with the BD Surgical Clipper (REF 5513E). Only trained healthcare personnel should use BD ClipVac™ system and the BD Surgical Clippers. If the

BD Surgical Clippers and BD ClipVac™ system are being used for the first time, see the training materials provided by BD.

How Supplied:

The BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit (REF 5500E) is a non-sterile reusable device. Included in this box:

1. One vacuum unit

2. IFU

The BD ClipVac™ Charging Adapter & Battery will be included in a separate box (REF 5506A/5506E/5506U/5506K) that contains:

1. One battery

2. One charging adapter (charger, power supply & power cord)

Note: The BD ClipVac™ Disposable Filter Assembly is packaged and sold separately (REF 5575).

Limitations on Reprocessing:

Repeated cleaning has minimal effect on the system. End of life is determined by wear and inadvertent damage due to use.

Step 1. Remove the battery from charging

stand and review the LCD display to

ensure battery has sufficient charge for

the procedure prior to use. See Charging

the Battery section.

Step 2. To insert battery in vacuum unit,

retract battery latch and place in open

slot with the battery tab opposite the

battery latch.

Note: Battery will be properly seated

when latch mechanism is slightly over

the battery.

Step 3. Remove the disposable filter

assembly from package. Uncoil tubing

by gripping near the nozzle and filter

body , gently pulling taut to remove any

twist and straighten tubing.

Step 5. Place nozzle of disposable filter

assembly over the clipper after the

surgical blade has been installed on the

clipper handle. Nozzle will click into place

when properly seated to the clipper.

Ensure the retention knob on either

side of the nozzle is properly seated prior

to use.

Step 4. Place the filter body onto the

vacuum port end of the vacuum unit.

Note: The filter body will rotate freely

when attached.

Step 7. While holding loose skin taut, clip

hair using a slow steady forward motion

avoiding downward pressure.

Note: The bottom side of the clipper

blade should remain flat and gently rest

on the surface of the skin while clipping.

To ensure hair is properly collected by the

vacuum, never tilt the blade edge into

the skin.

Note: For optimal performance, use on

dry hair.

Step 8. When clipping is complete, turn

OFF unit and gently twist the filter body

to remove disposable filter assembly

away from the vacuum unit.

Step 9. Discard filter body into general

waste and recycle nozzle and tubing

according to local regulations. To detach

the filter body from the tubing, pull with

a gentle twist.

Step 10. After disinfecting and/or manual

cleaning, place vacuum unit in the

designated area for next use. If necessary,

return battery to the charging adapter.

Step 6. Turn ON the vacuum unit by

flipping the switch .

Note: Ensure BD Surgical Clipper is turned

ON prior to starting clipping procedure.

Note: The BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit may be placed on the bed next to the patient or

secured to the bedrail.

Charging notes:

• Maximum time required for a charging adapter to charge an empty battery shall be 4 hours.

• Charge at room temperature of +41 °F (+5 °C) to +95 °F (+35 °C)

• Avoid charging in direct sunlight or near radiating heat.

• If not used for extended periods of time, charge battery every six (6) months to preserve battery life.

• The lithium-ion battery must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations or by using the RBRC 1-800 number listed on the battery to locate

your local recycling point. Never incinerate the lithium battery. Do not dispose of the battery with general waste.

Disinfection Instructions:

The BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit should be thoroughly disinfected, after each use, using one of the recommended disinfectant solutions listed below:

• Isopropyl Alcohol/Quaternary Ammonia solution (e.g., validated disinfectant PDI Super Sani-Cloth

) containing the active ingredients:

0.25% n-Alkyl (68% C

55.00% Isopropyl Alcohol

• Chlorinated bleach solution (e.g. validated disinfectant PDI Sani-Cloth

Bleach) containing the active ingredient:

0.63% sodium hypochlorite (i.e., 6300 ppm sodium hypochlorite)

1. Thoroughly apply to all surfaces of the BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit and maintain a wet surface for at least:

a. 3 minutes for Isopropyl Alcohol/Quaternary Ammonia solutions or

b. 4 minutes for Chlorinated bleach solution.

2. Surfaces must remain visibly wet with the disinfectant for the complete timeframe indicated above.

3. Repeat the disinfection steps above if the unit dries prior to the allotted timeframe.

4. Allow the BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit to air dry completely prior to storage.

Charging the Battery

Plug the charging cord into the charging adapter. A quick red and green LED flashing is

an indication that charger is ON. Place the battery into the battery bay ensuring that the

5-way connector is fully seated. The LCD fuel gauge on the battery will begin flashing to

indicate it is receiving a charge. The LED indicators on the front of the charging adapter

will provide the charging status. Below are the LED indicators on the charging adapter:

• Green Flashing………….Battery is charging

• Green Solid………………..Battery is fully charged

• Red Solid…………………….Battery failure, replace battery

Fuel Gauge LCD display on top of the battery:

• 5 Bars = 80% to 100% charged

• 4 Bars = 60% to 79% charged

• 3 Bars = 40% to 59% charged

• 2 Bars = 20% to 39% charged

• 1 Bar = 0% to 19% charged

If the device comes in contact with bodily fluid, the following manual cleaning instructions can be used:

1. Using enzymatic/neutral pH detergent, prepare per the manufacturer’s instructions utilizing tap water entailing a temperature range of 27°C to 44°C

(81°F to 111°F).

2. Do not submerge or spray the device with cleaning solution.

3. Use a soft, clean cloth saturated with the cleaning solution (not dripping) to manually clean all external contaminated surfaces of the device for a

minimum of 5 minutes. Be careful not to cause any liquid to drip into the charger or vacuum. In conjunction with this step, use an appropriately sized

brush (standard soft bristle toothbrush and lumen brush) to remove all visible soil from the device; paying particular attention to cracks, crevices and

other hard to clean areas. Note: It is recommended that enzymatic or neutral pH detergent solution should be changed when it becomes grossly

contaminated (bloody and/or turbid).

4. Rinse thoroughly by using a soft, clean cloth saturated with lukewarm (27°C - 44°C) tap water (not dripping) for a minimum of 30 seconds. Repeat 2

additional times for a total of 3 total rinse cycles. Be careful not to cause any liquid to drip into the charger or vacuum.

5. Dry the device with a clean, lint-free towel.

6. Visually examine the device for cleanliness.

7. If visible soil remains, repeat cleaning procedure until the device is thoroughly clean.

Inspection/Maintenance

• The BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit requires no routine maintenance aside from cleaning system after each patient use. If a replacement is needed,

contact your local BD representative or customer service. Service or attempted repair performed by unqualified personnel may result in a risk of injury,

electric shock, fire, or permanent damage to the equipment and will void any warranty.

• Never use BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit or a battery that appears to be defective, damaged, or not working properly.

Limited Warranty:

• The BD ClipVac™ Presurgical Hair Removal System from BD (REFs 5500E, 5505, 5506A/5506E/5506U/5506K) is warranted against defects in material

and workmanship under normal use for a period of two (2) years from the date of unit placement. If this product is determined to be defective with

the warranty period, it will be repaired or replaced without charge by BD, if you contact your local representative or customer service representative.

They will provide the proper return authorization. Please include a description of the defect or damage with the returned unit.

• This warranty does not cover the Disposable Filter Assembly (REF 5575) nor does it cover damage caused by misuse, negligence, accident, or abuse,

alteration or modification of the unit by anyone other than BD or its authorized agent, or affixation of any accessory not manufactured or authorized

by BD, or used in combination with other surgical clippers.

• BD is not liable in either tort or contract for any cost, expense, loss, or damage whether direct, consequential, special, collateral, or incidental arising

out of the use, misuse, or inability to use this product. Except as expressly provided above, BD disclaims all warranties including, but not limited to the

implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for particular purpose.

Disposal:

• Disposable assembly can be discarded into general waste or per hospital protocol.

• The nozzle and tubing may be recycled. To remove the filter body from the tubing, simply pull the tube from the filter body.

• The lithium-ion battery must be disposed of in accordance with local regulations or by using the RBRC 1-800 number listed on the battery to locate

your local recycling point. Never incinerate the lithium battery. Do not dispose of the battery with general waste.

Caution:

• Use the BD ClipVac™ system as described in the Operating Instruction. Avoid direct patient contact with the nozzle. Direct patient contact should be

with the bottom side of the clipper blade.

• Never use BD ClipVac™ Vacuum Unit, battery or charging adaptor that appears to be defective, damaged, or not working properly.

• Do not cover vacuum unit to prevent obstructing air flow as this may cause overheating of vacuum unit.

• Do not re-use disposable ﬁlter assembly, it is intended to be single use only.

• Clean the vacuum unit after each patient use, refer to cleaning and disinfecting instructions.

• Do not submerse or spray the vacuum unit, battery, or charging adapter with any liquid.

• Do not sterilize the vacuum unit, battery or charging adapter.

• Do not short the battery terminals.

• Avoid excessive physical shock or vibration to the battery.

• Do not place the battery and charging adapter in a location where it is subjected to direct sunlight and keep away from other external heat sources.

• Do not dispose the battery with general waste. Never incinerate the lithium ion battery.

• Do not replace charging adapter cord. Use only the battery and charging adapter supplied by BD.

• Do not attempt to modify or repair the vacuum unit, battery, or charging adapter as this can result in damage of the BD ClipVac™ system and will void

the warranty.

REF 5500E needs special precautions regarding EMC and needs to be used according to the following EMC information. REF 5500E complies with the

EMC requirements of the IEC 60601-1-2.

The BD ClipVac™ system is intended for use in the electromagnetic environment specified in the following tables.

Warning:

REF 5500E should not be used adjacent to or stacked with other equipment. If adjacent or stacked use is necessary, REF 5500E should be observed to

verify normal operation in the configuration in which it will be used.

REF 5500E has been tested and found to comply with the limits for the medical devices to the IEC 6060112. These limits are designed to provide

reasonable protection against harmful interference. This equipment generates uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed

and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to other devices in the vicinity. However, there is no guarantee that

interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to the other devices which can be determined

REF 5500E/5506 series is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of

REF 5500E/5506 series can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications

Étape7. Tout en tendant la peau, tondre les

poils en eectuant un mouvement lent et

continu vers l'avant et en évitant d'exercer une

pression vers le bas.

Remarque: la partie inférieure de la lame

de la tondeuse doit rester à plat et reposer

légèrement sur la surface de la peau pendant

la tonte. Pour s'assurer que les poils sont bien

aspirés, ne jamais incliner le bord de la lame

vers la peau.

Remarque: pour obtenir des performances

optimales, utiliser sur une peau et des poils secs.

Étape6. Allumer l'unité d'aspiration en

appuyant sur le bouton .

Remarque: s'assurer que la tondeuse

chirurgicale BD est bien allumée avant de

procéder à la tonte.

Étape9. Éliminer le corps du filtre

comme un déchet classique et recycler

l'embout et le tube conformément à la

réglementation locale. Pour détacher le

corps du filtre du tube, tirer dessus en le

tournant légèrement.

Étape10. Après désinfection et/

ou nettoyage manuel, placer l'unité

d'aspiration dans la zone désignée jusqu'à

la prochaine utilisation. Si nécessaire,

remettre la batterie dans l'adaptateur

de charge.

Remarques sur le chargement:

• La durée maximale nécessaire à un adaptateur de charge pour charger une batterie vide est de 4heures.

• Chargement à température ambiante (entre +5°C et +35°C).

• Éviter de charger la batterie à la lumière directe du soleil ou à proximité d'une chaleur rayonnante.

• En cas d'inutilisation pendant une période prolongée, charger la batterie tous les six (6) mois pour préserver l'autonomie de la batterie.

• La batterie au lithium-ion doit être mise au rebut conformément à la réglementation locale ou dans le point de recyclage identiﬁé à l'aide du numéro RBRC 1-800

qui ﬁgure sur la batterie. Ne jamais incinérer la batterie au lithium. Ne pas éliminer la batterie avec les déchets classiques.

Instructions de désinfection:

L'unité d'aspiration du système BD ClipVac™ doit être soigneusement désinfectée, après chaque utilisation, en utilisant l'une des solutions désinfectantes

recommandées ci-dessous:

• Solution d'alcool isopropylique/ammonium quaternaire (ex.: désinfectant autorisé PDI Super Sani-Cloth

) contenant les ingrédients actifs suivants:

0,25% de chlorure de n-alkyl (68% de C

, 32% de C

) diméthyléthylbenzyl ammonium

º 0,25% de chlorure de n-alkyl (60% de C

, 30% de C

, 5% de C

, 5% C

) diméthylbenzyl ammonium

º 55% d'alcool isopropylique

• Solution d'eau de javel chlorée (ex.: désinfectant autorisé PDI Sani-Cloth

Bleach) contenant l'ingrédient actif suivant:

0,63% d'hypochlorite de sodium (c.-à-d. 6300ppm d'hypochlorite de sodium)

1. Appliquer soigneusement sur toutes les surfaces de l'unité d'aspiration du système BD ClipVac™ et conserver une surface humide pendant au moins:

a. 3minutes pour les solutions d'alcool isopropylique/ammonium quaternaire ou

b. 4minutes pour la solution d'eau de javel chlorée.

2. Les surfaces doivent rester visiblement humidiﬁées par le désinfectant pendant l'intégralité des durées indiquées ci-dessus.

3. Répéter les étapes de désinfection ci-dessus si l'unité sèche avant le délai imparti.

4. Laisser l'unité d'aspiration du système BD ClipVac™ sécher entièrement à l'air libre avant de la ranger.

Chargement de la batterie

Brancher le cordon de charge sur l'adaptateur de charge. Lorsque le voyant rouge et vert

clignote rapidement, cela signiﬁe que le chargeur est allumé. Placer la batterie dans son

compartiment, en veillant à ce que le connecteur à 5 broches soit bien en place. La jauge

LCD située sur la batterie se met à clignoter pour indiquer que la batterie est en cours de

chargement. Les voyants à LED situés sur la façade de l'adaptateur de charge indiquent l'état

de charge. Les voyants à LED qui se trouvent sur l'adaptateur de charge sont les suivants:

• Vert clignotant ......Batterie en cours de chargement

• Vert ﬁxe ............. Batterie pleine

• Rouge ﬁxe...........Défaillance de la batterie, procéder à son remplacement

Écran LCD de la jauge sur le dessus de la

batterie:

• 5barres = 80% à 100% de charge

• 4barres = 60% à 79% de charge

• 3barres = 40% à 59% de charge

• 2barres = 20% à 39% de charge

• 1barre = 0% à 19% de charge

Si l'appareil entre en contact avec des ﬂuides corporels, les instructions de nettoyage manuel suivantes peuvent être suivies:

1. À l'aide d'un détergent enzymatique/à pH neutre, préparer une solution conformément aux instructions du fabricant, en utilisant de l'eau du robinet à une

température comprise entre 27°C et 44°C.

2. Ne pas immerger l'appareil dans la solution de nettoyage ou l'asperger avec celle-ci.

3. Utiliser un chion doux et propre, imprégné de solution de nettoyage (mais qui ne goutte pas), pour nettoyer manuellement toutes les surfaces extérieures

contaminées de l'appareil pendant au moins 5minutes. Veiller à ce qu'aucune goutte de liquide ne pénètre dans le chargeur ou l'unité d'aspiration.

Parallèlement, utiliser une brosse de taille adaptée (brosse à dents classique à poils souples et écouvillon) pour éliminer toute salissure visible de l'appareil, en

faisant particulièrement attention aux ﬁssures, aux fentes et aux autres zones diciles d'accès. Remarque: il est conseillé de remplacer la solution détergente

enzymatique ou à pH neutre lorsqu'elle est excessivement souillée (sanglante et/ou trouble).

4. Rincer soigneusement à l'aide d'un chion doux et propre, imprégné d'eau tiède (27°C - 44°C), pendant au moins 30secondes. Répéter l'opération 2fois, pour un

total de 3cycles de rinçage complets. Veiller à ce qu'aucune goutte de liquide ne pénètre dans le chargeur ou l'unité d'aspiration.

5. Sécher le dispositif à l'aide d'une serviette propre et qui ne peluche pas.

6. Examiner visuellement le dispositif pour vériﬁer sa propreté.

7. Si des souillures sont encore présentes, répéter la procédure de nettoyage jusqu'à ce que le dispositif soit parfaitement propre.

Inspection/entretien

• L'unité d'aspiration du BD ClipVac™ ne nécessite aucun entretien de routine, en dehors du système de nettoyage, après chaque utilisation sur un patient. Si un

remplacement est nécessaire, contacter votre représentant BD local ou le service clientèle. Tout entretien ou toute tentative d'entretien par du personnel non

qualiﬁé peut présenter un risque de blessures, d'électrocution, d' incendie ou de dommages irréversibles sur l'appareil, et entraîner l'annulation de la garantie.

• Ne jamais utiliser l'unité d'aspiration du système BD ClipVac™ ou une batterie qui semble défectueuse, endommagée ou qui ne fonctionne pas correctement.

Garantie limitée:

• Le système de rasage préchirurgical BD ClipVac™ de BD (RÉF.5500E, 5505, 5506A/5506E/5506U/5506K) est garanti contre les défauts matériels et les vices

de fabrication, dans des conditions normales d'utilisation, pendant une période de deux (2) ans à compter de la date de mise en place de l'unité. Si ce produit

est jugé défectueux pendant la période de garantie, il sera alors réparé ou remplacé gratuitement par BD après avoir contacté votre représentant local ou un

représentant du service clientèle. Celui-ci vous transmettra l'autorisation de retour nécessaire. Une description du défaut ou du dommage subi par l'unité renvoyée

doit être fournie.

• Cette garantie ne couvre pas le ﬁltre à usage unique (RÉF.5575) ou les dommages provoqués par un abus, une négligence, un accident ou une modiﬁcation de

l'appareil par une personne autre que BD ou un agent agréé, ou par l'ajout d'un quelconque accessoire qui ne serait pas fabriqué ou autorisé par BD ou qui serait

utilisé en combinaison avec d'autres tondeuses chirurgicales.

• BD décline toute responsabilité, délictuelle ou contractuelle, en cas de coûts, de dépenses, de pertes ou de dommages directs, indirects, spéciaux, collatéraux

ou accessoires engendrés par l'utilisation, le mauvais usage, ou l'incapacité à utiliser ce produit. Sauf disposition expresse ci-dessus, BD décline toute garantie, y

compris, sans toutefois s'y limiter, toute garantie implicite de qualité marchande et d' adéquation à un usage particulier.

Mise au rebut:

• Les dispositifs à usage unique peuvent être éliminés avec les déchets classiques ou conformément au protocole de l'hôpital.

• L'embout et les tubes peuvent être recyclés. Pour retirer le corps du ﬁltre du tube, tirer simplement sur le tube pour le séparer du corps du ﬁltre.

• La batterie au lithium-ion doit être mise au rebut conformément à la réglementation locale ou dans le point de recyclage identiﬁé à l'aide du numéro

RBRC 1-800 qui ﬁgure sur la batterie. Ne jamais incinérer la batterie au lithium. Ne pas éliminer la batterie avec les déchets classiques.

Attention:

• Utiliser le système BD ClipVac™ conformément aux instructions d'utilisation. Éviter tout contact direct entre le patient et l'embout. Le contact direct

avec le patient doit s'eectuer avec la partie inférieure de la lame de la tondeuse.

• Ne jamais utiliser l'unité d'aspiration du système BD ClipVac™, la batterie ou un adaptateur de charge qui semble défectueux(se), endommagé(e) ou

qui ne fonctionne pas correctement.

• Ne jamais couvrir l'unité d'aspiration; cela pourrait empêcher la circulation de l'air et provoquer une surchaue de l'unité d'aspiration.

• Ne pas réutiliser le ﬁltre à usage unique, il est destiné à n'être utilisé qu'une seule fois.

• Nettoyer l'unité d'aspiration après chaque utilisation sur un patient en respectant les instructions de nettoyage et de désinfection.

• Ne jamais immerger l'unité d'aspiration, la batterie ou l'adaptateur de charge dans un liquide ou l'asperger avec celui-ci.

• Ne pas stériliser l'unité d'aspiration, la batterie ou l'adaptateur de charge.

• Ne pas court-circuiter les bornes de la batterie.

• Éviter tout choc physique ou toute vibration excessive de la batterie.

• Ne pas placer la batterie et l'adaptateur de charge dans un endroit exposé aux rayons directs du soleil et les éloigner de toute autre source de chaleur

externe.

• Ne pas éliminer la batterie avec les déchets classiques. Ne jamais incinérer la batterie au lithium-ion.

• Ne pas remplacer le cordon de l'adaptateur de charge. Utiliser uniquement la batterie et l'adaptateur de charge fournis par BD.

• Ne pas essayer de modiﬁer ou de réparer l'unité d'aspiration, la batterie ou l'adaptateur de charge; cela risquerait d'endommager le système

BD ClipVac™ et d'annuler la garantie.
