1.3Description

TheInvacarePlatinumconcentratorisusedbypatientswith

respiratorydisorderswhorequiresupplementaloxygen.Thedevice

isnotintendedtosustainorsupportlife.

Theoxygenconcentrationleveloftheoutputgasrangesfrom87%

to95.6%.Theoxygenisdeliveredtothepatientthroughtheuse

ofanasalcannula.

TheInvacarePlatinumconcentratorusesamolecularsieveand

pressureswingadsorptionmethodologytoproducetheoxygen

gasoutput.Ambientairentersthedevice,isfilteredandthen

compressed.Thiscompressedairisthendirectedtowardoneof

twonitrogenadsorbingsievebeds.

Concentratedoxygenexitstheoppositeendoftheactivesievebed

andisdirectedintoanoxygenreservoirwhereitisdeliveredtothe

patient.

TheInvacarePlatinumconcentratoriscapableofoperationbythe

patientinahomeenvironmentorinaninstitutionalenvironment.

Deviceoperatesatanominal230VAC/50Hertzsupply.

Serviceinformationwillbeavailableuponrequesttoqualified

technicalpersonnelonly.

1.4Contraindications

InvacareisnotawareofanycontraindicationsfortheInvacare

PlatinumConcentratorSeries.

1.5OptionalAccessories

Therearemanydifferenttypesofhumidifiers,oxygentubing,cannulas

andmasksthatcanbeusedwiththisdevice.Youshouldcontactyour

localhomecareproviderforrecommendationsonwhichofthese

deviceswillbebestforyou.Theyshouldalsogiveyouadviceonthe

properusage,maintenance,andcleaning.

Thesupplyaccessories(nasalcannula,mask,tubing,humidifier,etc.)

usedtodeliveroxygentothepatientneedtoincludeameansto

reducethepropagationoffireintheaccessoriesforthesafetyofthe

patientandothers.Ifacommerciallyavailable,fire-activatedflow

stopdeviceisusedintheaccessoriessetup,itshouldbeplacedas

closetothepatientaspossible.

Beforeyouinstallandoperatetheconcentrator,pleasereferto

PlatinumSeriesUserManual.

ThePlatinumconcentratorshouldALWAYSbekeptintheupright

positiontopreventcabinetdamagewhilebeingtransported.The

shippingcontainerhasbeendesignedtoassuremaximumprotection

oftheconcentrator.

Iftheconcentratoristobereshippedbycommoncarrier,itshould

bepackedinanewcarton.Additionalcartonsareavailablefrom

Invacare.

Theaircompressorsuspensionsystemhasbeenengineeredto

withstandseveremotionandorientation.

4.2Unpacking

1.Checkforanyobviousdamagetothecartonoritscontents.If

damageisevident,notifythecarrier,oryourlocaldealer.

2.Removeallloosepackingfromthecarton.

3.Carefullyremoveallthecomponentsfromthecarton.

Unlesstheoxygenconcentratoristobeused

IMMEDIATELY,leaveconcentratorinitspackagingfor

roomair.Itprovideshighconcentrationofoxygendirectlytoyou

throughanasalcannula.Clinicalstudieshavedocumentedthat

oxygenconcentratorsaretherapeuticallyequivalenttoothertypesof

oxygendeliverysystems.

Yourproviderwillshowyouhowtouseyouroxygenconcentrator.

2.FillhumidifierbottleAwithboiledtapwaterorbottledwater

tothelevelindicatedbythemanufacturer.Boiltapwaterfor

approximately10minutesandcooltoroomtemperatureprior

touse.

3.InsertaflatheadscrewdriverintheplategrooveBonthetop

edgeofthefilteraccessdoorCandgentlyprythefilteraccess

dooroff.

4.PullupandremovethehumidifierbottleadapterD(nextto

inletfilter).

–Installthehumidifierbottleand/orother

accessoriesproperly.

5.Attachthehumidifierbottleadaptertothehumidifierbottleby

turningthewingnutonthehumidifierbottlecounterclockwise

untilitissecurelyfastened.

6.WhenplacingthehumidifierbottleinthecompartmentEon

theconcentrator,attachthehumidifierbottle/adaptertubeFto

theoxygenoutletconnectorGontheconcentrator.

Whenusingtubingconnectionslongerthan2.1m(7

feet)inlength,positionthehumidifierasclosetothe

patientaspossibletoallowformaximumhumidification

output.

7.Attachthepatients’nasalcannulasupplytubetothehumidifier

bottleoutletH.

8.Afterassembly,ensurethatoxygenisflowingthroughthenasal

cannula.

9.Replacethefilteraccessdooronthesideofconcentratorby

snappingitbackintotheplategroove.

2.Iftheflowrateontheflowmetereverfallsbelow0.5L/minfor

morethanaboutoneminute,thePotentialObstructionAlert

willbetriggered.Thisisarapidbeepingoftheaudiblealarm.

Checkyourtubingoraccessoriesforblockedorkinkedtubing

oradefectivehumidifierbottle.Afterratedflowisrestoredto

between0.5L/minand0.75L/min.,thePotentialObstruction

Alertwillturnoff.

APotentialObstructionAlertindicatesaconditionthat

maybeassociatedwithapartialorcompleteobstruction

ofoxygenoutput.

TheuseofsomeaccessoriessuchasthePreciseRx™pediatric

flowmeterandtheHomeFillcompressorwilldeactivatethe

PotentialObstructionAlert.
